"Sa buray ka man kiton ay, mapisti baga ka!"

I have never seen a historical writing on “slurs.”  Slurs are words meant “to demean somebody: to speak of somebody in an insulting or demeaning way.”  Slurs can be categorized.  There are racial slurs (“nigger”), campus slurs (“grupong patal”) or gender slurs (“babayi sana man ika”).

Nabua has different slur categories.  Some debase the female genitalia or the female gender itself, like “sa buray ni inanya” or “puta” or “lechero”  But there are also slurs associated to males, like “lusi” and “yo de puta” (from hijo de puta).  Yet there are also slurs linked with male-female sexual acts, like “ay kado.” Also, there are slurs associated with homosexuality, like “punyetero” (this information is according to Dulceanne’s Latino husband).  Some slurs are associated with the demonic, like “demonyado” and the beastly, like “gadya” or “kabakab.”  Some are even derived from foreign languages like the Japanese word, “bakero,” (“idiot, dumb”).  Some refer to bad taste or attitude, like “masiba,” “patal,” “ungag,” “tonto,” “bustagon.”

But there are also slurs that I find hard to understand, like “paggagadut,”  “lintirungan,” “simpeterno,” and the like.

So this is really a tough topic to write about.  If you have any explanation to any of the “tutunglon” I wrote below, please explain them using this outline

  1. meaning of the slur
  2. example in usage

Also, you may want to add a “tutunglon” and use the same outline.
