Ligalig
Portraits of human insecurity and public unrest
Exhibit of 8”x10” photographs
An initiative of Artists’ Arrest, Southern
Tagalog Exposure and Kodao Productions
July 15-August 02, 2008
Conspiracy,
Visayas Avenue
Yearly in July, the State of the Nation Address paints a
pretty picture of the Philippines. Small victories are glorified and claimed by
the administration, while malignant turmoil are evaded or summarily dismissed.
We recognize the fabrications because we have looked out the windows and walked
the streets. In contrast to the empirical, the official report of the Head of
State is a creative depiction with merits in the fiction genre. While the speech
may be filled with fantasies, against it we pit silent pictures.
Owing to
an optical process, photographs effectively capture stories borrowed from
reality. A standard in news reportage and documentary, it is also accepted as a
potent research tool and evidence in court. Its power as testimony recognized,
keen photographers thusly become witnesses to the everyday life of the Filipino
people, to the actual state of the nation.
Featured photographers are Boy
Bagwis, Audrey Beltran, King Catoy, Karl Castro, Kiri Dalena, Dada Docot,
Chantel Garcia, Kenneth Guda, Cristopher Linag, Nerve Macaspac, Marie Perlada,
Ilang-ilang Quijano, Candice Reyes, Luwalhati Silang, Jake Silbato, Alanah
Torralba, and Raymund Villanueva.
Opening program will be from 7pm to 9pm
on July 15. This is an open invitation, feel free to bring friends.
Our
thanks go out to TAKDER, Dale Diaz, Prof. Danny Arao, and Valyushk Torres for
sponsoring some exhibit costs.
